Huw Watkin has nearly 40 years of experience in research, writing and publication in all facets of journalism, risk assessment and enhanced due diligence. He has a proven track record in team and project management, and an established network of professional and personal contacts throughout Asia and around the world.

Huw is the founder of Drakon Associates, a boutique research and investigation company focused on the Asia Pacific region and was previously Global Head of Business Intelligence for Thomson Reuters’ Risk Managed Services (RMS) based in Hong Kong. From there he oversaw a global team of regional managers, researchers and editors which provided Thomson Reuters’ RMS clients with the insights required to properly understand and manage their risk exposure.

Earlier, Huw created IntergraScreen’s business intelligence unit to enhance that company’s pioneering public domain research capacity with the insights of well-placed and expert human sources. Originally focused on the Asia Pacific region with an emphasis on China, India and Southeast Asia, IntegraScreen’s business intelligence unit expanded under Huw’s supervision to provide comprehensive global coverage and meet a range of specific business intelligence requirements.

Before focusing his energies on risk and enhanced due diligence, Huw pursued a career in radio, television and print journalism which in 1995 brought him to Asia from Australia. He has lived and worked since in Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong. He also completed extended assignments in Indonesia, East Timor and Pakistan.

Huw is an anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism funding specialist, and holds a Master’s degree in Journalism with a focus on international relations in East Asia from the University of Hong Kong. Now based in Australia, he continues to travel widely.
